Border situation normal, says Home adviser

Dhaka – The situation at the border with India is almost normal now, Home Affairs Adviser Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said on Tuesday after tension mounted in northern frontier over the construction of barbed wire fencing by the Indian guards.

The adviser said the construction of the fence was stopped.

“There is no tension in the border now,” he said while relying to a question after emerging from a view exchange meeting with the divisional officers in Mymensingh.

Chowdhury said a Director General (DG) level meeting of the two border forces of Bangladesh and India will be held next month.

“The issues will be discussed at the meeting,” he said.

Jahangir also said some unbalanced agreements have been signed between the two next-door neighbours .

He said they have already sent a letter to this end.

A discussion will be held on how the problems arose after signing the unequal agreements can be resolved, he said.
