Dhaka’s air quality worsens further

Dhaka – The air quality in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, and surrounding areas has significantly worsened, reaching unhealthy and occasionally to hazardous levels.

In light of this, the Environment, Forest, and Climate Change Ministry has advised the public to wear masks when outdoors.

Vulnerable individuals are encouraged to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary, according to a press release issued by the ministry on Wednesday

The Department of Environment provides regularly updated air quality data on its website, and citizens are urged to monitor this information and take appropriate precautions.

To combat air pollution, all stakeholders, including brick kiln and factory owners, as well as the general public, are requested to adopt measures that include avoiding burning of solid waste, ensuing the construction sites have proper enclosures and coverings, keeping construction materials securely covered, keeping fully covered trucks and lorries transporting construction materials.

It also urged to spray water around construction areas at least twice daily and prevent the operation of old or smoke-emitting vehicles on the roads.

The release emphasized that controlling air pollution is a gradual process that requires collective action. The government calls on everyone to contribute to this critical effort.
