Students urged to remain calm

Dhaka – After a series of violent clashes in educational institutions over the past weeks, the government has asked the students to remain calm and not to get involve into any clash or violence.

“Strict actions will be taken if any instigation is found behind any such clashes,” said Shafiqul Alam, the Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser, told state-run Bangladesh DSangbad Sangstha news agency on Monday, a day after thousands of students vandalized the Shaheed Suhrawardy Government College, Kabi Nazrul College and Dr Mahbubur Rahman Mollah College and National Hospital in the old part of Dhaka, and rival groups clashed at Tejgaon Polytechnic College and Bangladesh University of Textile Engineering in the city’s Tejgaon industrial area.

More clashes were reported in the past week between rival groups of Dhaka College and Dhaka City College.

The press secretary said that the government urged the students to remain calm and not to get involved in any violent activities.

The government is investigating whether any instigation were behind it, he said adding that the government would thwart any attempt to create instability in any part of the country, including educational institutions.
