Dhaka – Bangladesh’s interim administration has expressed keen interest to work jointly with the Himalayan country Nepal for power sector development.
Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan on Sunday said in a statement while Nepalese Ambassador to Bangladesh Ghanshyam Bhandari paid a courtesy call on him at his office, a press release of the ministry said.
“Both the countries can also work together for expansion of bilateral trade relations,” the adviser said.
A number of bilateral issues such as purchasing of 40-MW hydropower from Nepal, setting up jointly a 683-MW Sunkoshi-3 hydropower plant and signing of a Power Sale Agreement (PSA) for importing 500 MW of power from Nepal’s GMR Upper Karnali Hydropower Limited (GUKHL) were discussed during the meeting, the release added.
The adviser also said that discussion was held to strengthen bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Nepal through the South Asia Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC).

He said that Nepal recognized the students’ movement from the very beginning and also expressed solidarity with the people of Bangladesh.
Among others, Senior Secretary of Power Division Habibur Rahman and Secretary of Railways Ministry Abdul Baki were present during the meeting, it added.
